10 things that are keeping me sane during the shutdown! By dez a la mocha

Last weekend escalated real quick. I went from giggling at memes - to - anxiety level 1000!

I experienced a roller coaster of emotions and realized it was deeply affecting me and that's when I realized I had to stop, breathe and reflect.

These are the tops 10 things I am currently doing that I believe has helped my stress level and hopefully it can help you too:

1 . BLOCK & PROTECT YOUR ENERGY:

I completely stopped communication with EVERYONE that was stressing me out and giving me more anxiety.

2. DAILY EXERCISE:

For several days I skipped working out and was just not in the mood. However, I quickly realized this was another reason why I was probably so anxious with no way to release my stress.

I started to workout again and this has definitely helped. I am so blessed to have a great accountability workout team and amazing trainer.

We send each other workouts, have a GroupMe chat and recently started working out via Zoom or FaceTime together.

3. HEALTHY DIET:

Last week I took "Quarantine & Chill" too serious and was eating everything in sight!!!  I am slowly cutting out the junk food, incorporating more vitamin C and making sure I continue with a healthy-balanced diet.

4. VIRTUAL CONNECTION:

I am a very social person so social distancing has been TOUGH! This is why I have made an effort to incorporate social interaction any way that I can.

During the past few weeks,  I have scheduled coffee breaks from work with friends, scheduled gratitude calls via zoom, talk to family and friends on video calls, regular call, voice notes or video messages, watched a movie with a friend through Netflix Party, workout sessions and just regular calls to catch on some good 'chisme' (healthy gossip :p)

I realized that video calls really do have a positive  impact on my day so I try do at least one or two a day.

    5 . MUSIC & COMEDY:

Everyday I make sure to turn on music that makes me want to dance. Last few days my favorites have been dance hall, reggae, salsa, merengue, reggae- roots and reggaeton.

I have also tuned into a few live parties different djs are hosting and some of my favorite have been D-nice and Rob Session.

Also, I make sure to watch at least one comedy show or spend a few minutes on Tik Tok a day. (Yeah, it's not just for kids anymore, LOL)

6. JOURNALING & GRATITUDE:

Every morning I use it as my meditation time and write down on my journal one thing I am thankful for.

During these rough days, that ONE thing is a BIG thing that keeps me motivated for the day.

7. KEEP BUSY:

Honestly, this is a great time to work on a project you have been putting off, learn a new language or develop a new hobby.

After taking a one week hiatus from everything, when this all started, I am intentionally keeping myself busy.

Besides work, I am working on content + planning for my different platforms and got back into gardening.

8. LIMIT NEWS TIME:

Between social media, T.V., Whatsapp chains and radio I became overwhelmed!!!!!!!!!

I decided to just watch the news for a limited time every day and be on the lookout for State and National announcements.

9. REST:

Keep your immune system up by getting enough rest. This is the perfect time to finally get your well deserved beauty sleep *wink-wink*

10. FAMILY PRAYER:

Every morning my family calls me and prays for me.  I really have found  comfort in these daily prayers.

If you chose not to pray try an alternative method that can help you keep motivated like meditation or gratitude sessions.

I hope these tips can help anyone that is struggling during this difficult time.

Mis amores, please try to stay positive, be kind to others especially those in need and follow the safety guidelines that CDC and your local authorities have established. This too shall pass.

Besos,
